Delve deeper into our animal world as you head behind the scenes with an expert ranger and help out with the morning or afternoon routines of a zookeeper. During your keeper experience, you will be able to meet a range of species from across the zoo and take part in a variety of keeper tasks.

Price: £160 for one person and £70 per additional participant (includes zoo admission). 

Dates: We only have a limited number of spaces available for each interaction, please check the booking calendar by clicking on the link above to check availability. We only allow bookings up to 6 months in advance.

Please note, we have limited availability at weekends and school holidays, so please allow plenty of time to book your interaction. Extensions will not be given.

What to expect

During the interaction, you will see and learn all about the different animals needs and how our keepers care for them. You will meet a selection of specially chosen animals, take part in some animal interactions and carry out zookeeper tasks. This will include preparing some of the animals’ diets, hand feeding and creating enrichment devices.

We only accept one booking per slot, so your experience will be exclusive to you and up to 3 of your friends to make it a really special occasion!

Whether you’re a Keeper for the Morning or a Keeper for the Afternoon, both experiences will last for up to two hours and after you will be free to enjoy the zoo during the remainder of the day. This experience includes admission into the zoo, and you’ll also get a complimentary car park pass and discount voucher to use in the gift shop.

A morning interaction will start at 9.45am, participants will be able to access the zoo prior to the zoo's general opening at 10am.

An afternoon interaction will start at 1pm, participants are able to access the zoo prior to the experience from opening at 10am. The purchase of additional non-participating guests can be made online in advance or on the day of the experience at Visitor Services and they can only access the zoo after 10.00am.

    • You must be at least 12 years old to participate in this experience.
    • Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult to accompany them on the experience.
    • There must be no more than 2 children per adult. 
    • Maximum 4 people per experience.
    • Unfortunately, this experience is not suitable for people who are pregnant.
    • While you will have the opportunity to meet a range of different animals, please be aware that specific animals cannot be requested
    • Because nature is unpredictable and the welfare of our animals is paramount, we are unable to guarantee interaction with any specific animals on the day of your experience.
