Animal Interactions for Visitors with Disabilities

We have tried to make our range of Animal Interactions as accessible as possible, however, due to the nature of our working environment, regrettably, we are unable to accommodate everyone.

  • Accompanying Carers
Any visitor with a registered disability is welcome to bring one accompanying carer along with them free of charge. However, please be aware that the accompanying carer will not be permitted to participate in the interaction unless they have paid for a place as an additional participant. Please bring proof of disability on the day of your interaction - this could be evidence of DLA or PIP, Blue Badge (along with photo ID) or a Medical Letter confirming disability. Please don’t be offended by our staff asking – some disabilities are not visible and we try to treat all our visitors the same.
  • Wheelchair Users
Visitors requiring the use of a wheelchair are welcome to take part in any of the following interactions - Meet the Lemurs, VIP Big Cat Feed, Keeper for the Day and VIP Behind the Scenes Tour. Please note however that the experience may differ slightly from that of other visitors and for the VIP Tour and Keeper for the Day the variety of animals you work with may be altered.
  • Immunocompromised Individuals
Working in close proximity with animals is unadvisable for immunocompromised individuals. Please contact us on 01253 830805 for advice before purchasing.
  • People with Epilepsy
We ask that anyone with epilepsy is accompanied by a carer throughout their experience. Suitable interactions include – Meet the Lemur, Meet the Capybara, Keeper for the Day and VIP Behind the Scenes Tour. Please note however that your experience may differ slightly from that of other visitors and the variety of animals you work with may be altered.
  • All other disabilities
Where possible, we will make reasonable adjustments to an experience to accommodate those with a disability or learning difficulty, due to practicality and health and safety this cannot always be achieved. If you have a specific disability or need and would like to know what interactions you can take part in, please contact us for advice before purchasing via email - animal.interactions@blackpoolzoo.org.uk. We do ask when booking any experience if the participant has any disabilities, additional needs or allergies we should be aware of. If anything stated is likely to cause a problem or an adjustment to your experience, please rest assured we will be in touch shortly after receiving your booking to discuss this with you.
