Animal Support Kitchen Technician

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Animal Support Kitchen Technician to join our Animal Support team on a an initial fixed term 12 month contract (annualised 40 hours a week).

The Animal Support Kitchen Technician plays a key role in diet preparation on the Animal Department, reporting to the Veterinary Health Coordinator.

The role:

Main duties include the preparation of animal diets formulated in our new Central Animal Kitchen.  The zoo houses over 1,000 animals and as expected their diets are varied, working from the animal diet sheets provided you will prepare diets for a range of species, ensuring they are prepared in a timely manner ready for delivery to the keepers.
Other duties will include accepting and unloading animal food deliveries, maintaining strict hygiene and biosecurity standards in the kitchens, liaising with the animal department staff regarding dietary changes, cleaning the kitchens and surrounding area after use and assisting in the stock rotation and control of food items. Applicants may also be required to assist with the delivery of diets to the various sections in the zoo using one of the zoo's electric vehicles as well as other minor tasks as required to aid the smooth running of the animal department.

About you:

Experience of food preparation in a fast paced environment is desirable as well as a keen interest in exotic animal care and welfare.
A full manual driving licence valid for the UK, and excellent time management and organisational skills are essential for this role.
