Visit Lancashire's Large Visitor Attraction of the Year

You are here

Our busiest year on record ended with a welcome surprise in the form of the Visit Lancashire Award for the Large Visitor Attraction.

The unusual, shiny trophy was presented by TV presenter Ranvir Singh to Zoo Director, Darren Webster and members of staff during a ceremony at the Winter Gardens on 5th September.

It’s not the first time that the zoo has brought home this particular accolade, but it’s a great achievement in light of the world class attractions located nearby.  Darren commented, “I’m delighted that we’ve won this award as it’s a just reward for all the hard work put in by every member of my staff.  We’ve had a very busy year indeed with yet another increase in our visitor numbers, and it’s pleasing to know that the zoo is appreciated as a leading attraction in the county.”

A further submission is now needed to take on winners of other counties throughout the country for the Visit England awards.

Blackpool Zoo is Open!

As part of Step 2 of the national roadmap out of lockdown we are allowed to open once again.

However, we will not be allowed to open most indoor areas: the indoor eating area of the cafe is closed, as are the indoor viewing area of animal houses including elephants, big cats, giraffes, small primates, gorillas and orangutans. These animals all have access to their outdoor enclosures, however they may take themselves inside during inclement weather.  Lemur Wood and Rainbow Landings remain closed.

A full list of restrictions and measures in place can be found here.  Please ensure you read them before you book your tickets as they are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

We really look forward to welcoming you back to Blackpool Zoo.
