2014 Halloween Spooktacular

You are here

Join us this half term for our 2014 Halloween Spooktacular (Saturday October 25th to Sunday November 2nd) at Blackpool Zoo!

We've got plenty of things to do around the zoo all week, including:

Pumpkin Fest
Children are invited to visit the Pumpkin Grotto in the Children’s Farm for a spot of pumpkin carving before lunch, then to the daily “Stomp and Chomp” after lunch when their creations are fed to the animals. We are fortunate this year to have on display in our Big Cat House a tiger face pumpkin which is being carved by Master Carver, Simon McMinnis. His work is much sought after and we are delighted that he’s joining us this year.
If that’s not enough pumpkins, you can even buy pumpkin soup in the Lake View Cafe!

Spine-tingling Story Telling
Local author and proprietor of Supernatural Events, Stephen Mercer, will be writing spooky stories for the under 6s. Story telling will be held daily in the main entrance Exhibition Room, the children are sure to be amazed at his tales! Guest readers will also be taking part.

Creative Creepy Corners
Are your children good at writing, poetry or colouring? If so, look out for our Creative Creepy Corners in the Big Cat House, Children’s Farm and main entrance Party Room. Prizes can be won and they can even design their very own Halloween monster! You'll also be able to download our activity sheets (coming soon) to complete at home and share with us online.

Mysterious Mammals and Blood-thirsty Birds Quiz Trail
The Zoo’s full of “spooky” animals! We have wolves, owls, rats, spiders and lemurs – OK, maybe not so spooky! Follow our prize Quiz Trail and find them all.

Bugs and Hisses
Scared of creepy crawlies? Test your fears and come to one of our Bugs and Hisses handling sessions in Creepy Crawly Corner (in the Elephant House). You’ll meet Colin the Cockroach, Sammy the Stick Insect and many more. Kids love them!

Fancy Dress Costume Parade
Get out your glad-rags, your pointy hat and your broomstick and come along to our fancy dress parade on the 31st October.  Prizes will be given for the best costumes, adults as well as children!  Be at the Sealion Arena straight after the 2.00 pm display. Even the Zoo staff will be dressed up! If you're stuck for ideas, make sure you check out our Halloween Spooktacular Pinterest board.

Trick or Treat
If you have a sweet tooth, attend our Talks and Feeds during the half term week and get your treats from the presenters. You may have to work for them, though!
