An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Animal Support/Grounds Operative to join our team on a zero hour contract over our busy summer season. The Animal Support/Grounds Operative is a key role that works closely with all park teams and to ensure the provision of essential support services for the animal department at Blackpool Zoo.
The role:
Duties include the delivery of animal bedding material and the removal of animal waste from various locations in the zoo. Collecting browse and the preparation and delivery of animal diets formulated in our new Central Animal Kitchen to the various animal sections, as well as basic maintenance tasks in animal enclosures, are also key elements of the position. This is a varied role which offers the opportunity to be involved in many critical aspects of animal care.
On the grounds department, you will perform routine maintenance tasks to keep the zoo grounds looking clean and attractive. This could include litter picking, emptying bins, and using landscaping equipment to maintain areas to the highest standards. You will assist with general landscaping duties such as weeding, pruning, planting, and watering as required.
About you:
Ideally, the successful candidate will have previous experience working in a zoo or an agricultural environment. Experience using farm machinery would be desirable, and a full manual driving licence valid for the UK is essential due to the need to drive park vehicles. Excellent time management and organisational skills are also essential for this role.
