Blackpool Zookeeper Academy

Blackpool Zoo is pleased to announce a new animal based course for young people aged 15-17 years old. The course will run over 10 sessions from 10.30am-3pm, including theory sessions on working with different exotic species as well as over 30 hours of practical experience with a range of zoo animals including invertebrates reptiles, primates, large mammals and elephants.

The course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career with animals and require practical experience to enhance their application. Those who wish to become vets, vet nurses, zookeepers or complete other animal based studies will benefit from this exciting new course.

Supported at all times by our education team, students complete an evidence portfolio of their work, a certificate of completion and a written reference.


* Timetable: the course will run 3 times a year on Saturdays in January, April and September 2010.
* Applications: Places for each course are limited to 10 students so early application is advised.
* Cost: £300 per course

We are also running 2 week courses over the 2010 Summer Holidays - courses consist of 10 sessions over two weeks, Monday to Friday, 10.30am - 3.00pm.  Dates are as follows:

26th July - 6th August 2010

9th August - 20 August 2010

23rd August - 3rd September 2010
