It's officlal - we're simply the best! On Wednesday, the Zoo scored a 2010 hat-trick by winning "Visitor Attraction of the Year" at the Lancashire and Blackpool Tourism Awards celebration at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel near Accrington. The award was presented by wildlife presenter, Michaela Strachan, who filmed at the Zoo in 2009.
This follows success in the Visit Blackpool Awards in February and a prestigious BIBA award as Best Tourism Business in Lancashire.
Darren Webster, Zoo Director, is thrilled with the latest accolade - "All the team work very hard indeed and we are fortunate to have enjoyed high levels of investments from our owning company, Parques Reunidos. This enables us to develop new areas of the Zoo as well as improving some enclosures which have been here since we opened. We have made our presence felt not only in the tourism industry in the area but also in the zoo world."
We now go forward to the North West Regional Finals later in the year where we will meet the Beatrix Potter Experience (Cumbria) and Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral (Merseyside). Cheshire's awards take place tonight.
