It's official - we are Tourist Attraction of the Year!
Blackpool Zoo IS the Tourist Attraction of the Year according to Visit Blackpool, the resort's tourism department.
At a glittering ceremony at the De Vere Heron's Reach, Zoo Director, Darren Webster and his team were thrilled when the announcement was made by Sally Lindsay of "Coronation Street" fame.
Worthy opposition also shortlisted included Pleasure Beach Resort, Blackpool Tower and Circus and the very popular Sandcastle Waterworld. Darren commented, "It's always a thrill to win an award, but Blackpool as a resort has more top class attractions than anywhere else in the UK, making it an even bigger achievement if you win. I should like to thank all the team at the Zoo for their hard work throughout the year - they're the real winners."
Other categories in which the Zoo was shortlisted were Marketing Initiative (March Madness), Tourism Experience of the Year (Keeper for the Day) and Special Recognition (Sarah Thomas - Head of Education).
The Zoo is also shortlisted for the prestigious BIBAs (Be Inspired Business Awards), the ceremony for which is being held on the 12th March at the Pleasure Beach.
